Start of the Second Round and a Word or two

Hi everyone!

As I’m writing, the Second Round of the Leeds Piano Competition will be live in around 5 hours! I am really excited about it, especially when the Second Round holds promises for less restricted repertoire that reveals more of the pianist’s personalities, and also more epic works.

That being said, performances are also going to be much longer than the First Round, and I don’t think reviewing every single one of the 24 upcoming performances is quite feasible for me. Having to write in such an on-demand sort of way, and to have to write on every single performance kind of takes away the joy of watching the competition for me.

I enjoyed writing about the performances, but frankly, it sometimes stresses me out that I have to write something interesting about every single one of them, and I don’t want to turn into another generic concert reviewer. I want this to be fun and honest, so, just like the Second Round, where restrictions on repertoire limit are somewhat alleviated, I am also lifting the burden of having to write about every single performance from my shoulders!

I’m still going to write about the competition, so please rest assured, but I will only write about stuff that really interest me and really inspire me to write–which I guarantee there will be plenty!–so the blog posts are only going to get better.

With that, I apologize for not finishing my reviews for the First Round–but writing about everything really did stress me out–so I’m going to promise to write better stuff for the coming rounds. Can’t wait!

I hope you’ll be watching the Leeds with me on medici.tv! And believe me I am not sponsored!

Regards,

Jeremy
